My Analysis
The Americans were impressive over the weekend as Mauricio Pochettino’s side defeated Venezuela. Striker Patrick Agyemang drew a penalty in the second minute, but Matko Miljevic’s attempt was poor and easily saved.
Agyemang later scored his first senior goal in the 39th minute, following Jack McGlynn’s opener. Miljevic found the net in the 64th minute, and Venezuela added a consolation goal.
The Americans looked cohesive, benefiting from players’ familiarity through youth levels and Miles Robinson’s leadership at the back. They completed twice as many passes as Venezuela, created 10 shots on target, and allowed only three.
Miguel Herrera now leads a Costa Rican team missing most first-team players. The squad largely consists of domestic league players, with 10 making their national team debut. Only one player has scored multiple goals at this level.
Orlando has been a fortress for the USMNT, with six wins in six matches, conceding just two goals while scoring over 20. The Americans have dominated Costa Rica at home, winning four consecutive matches and conceding just one goal.
